Third world farmer is a game that simulates some of the real-world mechanisms that cause and sustain poverty in third world countries. It’s an applied game (serious game) where you have to manage your farm and family. If all goes well, you’ll become rich but if all goes wrong (which eventually will happen) you lose everything, start accumulating debts and with crops dying of drought you will feel frustrated. If you have too much success, guerillas drop by and pay you a ‘visit’ and if things go down a ‘tradesman’ offers you to grow poppy flowers or opium.
It’s an old game but nonetheless gives an important view on managing and farming in a third world country. If you choose the right crop in the right time you do well, but if your investment is too big and suddenly all crops die it turns the wrong way quite fast.

How to play 3rd world farmer
You can play this game online for free on the internet. You only need to use the mouse whilst playing this game, it all comes down to an easy point and click.
This game is next to impossible to play with a visual disability. Crop prices are very small, the colors of the fields look alike, there is no sound to guide you whatsoever. If you are colorblind you can give it a try…
This game doesn’t use a single sound. It’s text only so it’s very good to play with an auditory disability.
If you can use a mouse or another pointing device you can play it. Since there is no need to type any text or use any keys, the mouse is the only thing you need.
People with a cognitive disability may have a hard time playing this game. Prices go up and down and it can be frustrating to just lose everything you’ve built up in one turn. A bit of strategy is also involved, if there’s just been a crop crisis it’s likely it won’t happen twice in a row… but it’s still possible! If you have a mild learning disability you’ll probably manage to play this game however!
